Universal City, CA, May 23, 2013—An elaborate 20-layer, topsy-turvy cake, punctuated by confetti canons, marked the celebration of Universal CityWalk’s® milestone 20th birthday party as the iconic destination set the stage for summertime fun and the launch of the blockbuster movie season with a retrospective of eight original prop cars from the “Fast & Furious” film series, including the “Flip” car from the much-anticipated summer release of “Fast & Furious 6,” and a special offer inviting movie buffs to park for $2 bucks this summer.
The CityWalk Cinemas has long been the epicenter for fans seeking an environment that matches the excitement of their favorite blockbusters. As one of the best movie-going experiences in Southern California, the CityWalk Cinemas is a state-of-the-art 18-screen movie complex and IMAX 3D theatre, complete with technologically advanced floor to-ceiling screens, equipped with 3D-ready digital projectors and a progressive surround sound system. The CityWalk Cinemas also feature custom-made, ergonomically-designed, ultra-wide and plush stadium-style rocker seats with extended leg room to provide the ultimate in movie-going luxury.

Today’s celebration, timed to coincide with the highly-anticipated opening weekend of Universal Pictures’ “Fast & Furious 6,” also treated guests to an impressive retrospective of souped-up street racers featured throughout the film franchise, including the memorable “Flip” car from the latest blockbuster installment. A life-sized wax figure of the film’s star Vin Diesel from Madame Tussauds Hollywood stood at the center of “5 Towers” and turned heads as guests did double takes at the realistic statue. (Note: All but the “Fast & Furious 6” “Flip” cars and the wax figure will return to their original display areas at Universal Studios Hollywood beginning Friday, May 24, where guests can view them with the purchase of a general theme park admission ticket.)
At the heart of today’s birthday celebration was a lively Happy Birthday rendition from the popular band, Midnight Red, slated to headline CityWalk’s Free Summer Music Spotlight concert series at “5 Towers,” which kicks off on June 29 with free performances every Saturday and Sunday through Labor Day weekend. Other leading artists performing throughout the summer will include Nick Cannon and the N’credibles (July 13), Ro Shon (July 27), “American Idol” stars, Casey Abrams and Haley Reinhart (August 10), and “The Voice” stars, Judith Hill and Katrina Parker (August 24).
