(London, UK - June 13, 2013) -- René Pérez Joglar (aka "Residente") of the socially outspoken/activist Latin music group Calle 13 confirmed via twitter, that he met with Julian Assange last evening at the Ecuadorian embassy in London - where the famed WikiLeaks founder has been confined for the last year after being granted asylum. Sharing the same stance against censorship and the concealment of information, Residente traveled to London to extend a personal invitation of creative collaboration to Assange.
On June 8th, Residente began directly engaging Calle 13's Five Million Twitter followers with a call to collectively write a new song - relaying that he would take the ideas of their united voices into a planned meeting with a special guest in the coming days. Now Residente and Julian Assange plan to unite again for a collaborative songwriting session, with real-time public participation via Twitter - tonight at 10PM local/London time. The "pie forza'o" creative exercise will focus on the subjects of disinformation and media manipulation, with Perez and Assange offering a first verse as a guide to build on, with public response, followed by further manipulation from Perez & Assange. Followers will also be receiving a 'click'/short music segment as a reference for song tempo. Watch @Calle13Oficial for further news and participation information.
"We support Assange because he is a victim of media manipulation. He is accused of releasing information to which we should have had access, because we deserve to be well informed. He brought out in the open a lot of people and he's being blamed for that, when it is not Assange who is killing people. Assange just revealed information about what governments are doing. Those who do not support him are attacking their own human rights, fundamental rights" - Residente of Calle13
Stay tuned over the coming weeks for updated information on the results of this new song project and developing plans for Calle13's highly anticipated fifth album, planned for release this fall.
