Gru, voiced by Steve Carell, is back to save the world in "Despicable Me 2." It's a great family film which includes many laughs and surprises through out the film.
Gru leaves his evil ways behind and sticks to the like of a regular person which leaves his life less than exciting. Having to behave for the sake of his three adopted girls, Margo, voiced by Miranda Cosgrove, Edith, voiced Dana Gaier, and Agnes, voiced by Elsie Fisher, leaves the once evil doer Gru living a suburban life creating jellies and jams, which taste horrible.
The mundane life Gru settles for leaves his assistant Dr. Nefario no option but to seek employment with another villain.
Secret agent , voiced by Kristin Wiig, offers Gru the chance to help save the world by helping to unearth the evil scheme of a mysterious villain at the mall.
Eduardo "El Macho," voiced by Benjamin Bratt, is a ladies man restaurant owner who's extravagant lifestyle, and charming sly son Antonio, voiced by Moises Arias, cause major conflicts for Gru.
The story is amusing with constant scenes that will have audiences laughing and progresses at a good pace.
Carell reprises his role well bringing a kinder side to Gru. The parental side of Gru comes out with the growth of Margo and her beginning to notice boys.
Fisher continues to voice the cutest little girl Agnes and serves not only as a sweet comedic relief but with he purity she is also a wise innocent voice of reason.
Wiig comes back as a new character in this sequel. Having been a small part o the first film she comes back in the second as a completely different character. The addition of her characters adds a new layer of comedy to the film. She collaborates with Carell to bring countless laughs spread throughout the film.
Bratt and Arias bring a Latin flavor to the story with father and son duo Eduardo "El Macho" and Antonio. Both bring a charisma to their characters that make them quite the flirtatious pair.
The minion are back. Those little yellow nonsensical minions of Gru are scattered throughout the film. They bring on the laughter and are consistently the attention grabbers.
The ending comes with many discoveries and twist that keep the animated film from getting dull.
I give this animated film a 4 out of 5 Popcorns. The story catches the audiences's attention from beginning to end and feels organic and original throughout. The characters were likable even the villains of the story. The new characters had a familiar feeling and added to the already likable cast. The minions might pull the attention a bit off the main storyline but they are worth it because they are so funny. The music was great featuring awesome music by Heitor Pereira and Pharrell Williams.
"Despicable Me 2" comes to theaters July 3.
