Take a mediocre trip down memory lane with "Monsters University" showing the not so funny college experience. James P. Sullivan, voiced by John Goodman, and Mike Wazowski, voiced by Billy Crystal, come to MU with dreams of becoming scarers. Through their conflicting student lives they become rivals. The rivalry inspires Mike to up his studying and learn the most effective way to be a scarer.
Originally Randall, voiced by Steve Buscemi, rooms with Mike who are both scare majors with big dreams. Randall is the less confident of the two since he is unsure if his abilities to share.
Sullivan arrogantly shows up to class showing of his family scarer legacy, being son of the legendary Sullivan's. Considering scaring to be inherited not learned Sullivan slacks off and relies on his studying.
Mike and Sullivan clash as they both strive to be top of the class and impress Dean Hardscrabble, voiced by Helen Mirren.
Dean Hardscrabble holds the scarer record for most powerful scream as well as the creator of the college's famous "Scare Games," a series of events for fraternities and sororities to prove their superior scaring skills.
Mike and Sullivan get kicked out of the scare school by the dean after a confrontation between Mike and Sullivan destroy a school treasure.
Mike devices a plan to win the "scare games" and get the dean to reinstate him into the scare program. Sullivan sees his opportunity to get back in the scare program as Mike's fraternity is one member short from qualifying for the scare games.
The fun times are just ahead as event after event showcases all the skills needed to scare.
I give this animated film a 3 out of 5 Popcorns. It's a nice family oriented film with some funny jokes and a coming of age storyline. This underdog film comes close to being as good as "Monsters Inc." but failed to be more impressive.
