"Super Mario Bros. U" brings Mario to the latest Nintendo platform but keeps the same enjoyable feel.
The "Super Mario Bros." are back in a new adventure on the Nintendo Wii U and this game has an amazing array of difficulty as the player advance through gameplay.
There are many classic Mario elements to the gameplay, as one plays through the game, such as classic 2D worlds, the classic enemies and everyone's favorite video game cartoon dinosaur Yoshi.
The game play starts off easy as most of the previous titles are but it quickly becomes difficult to the point where some players may lose the majority if not all their lives passing a single level.
One great feature of this game is being able to leave notes for other players. People leave comments like "Why?! Bowser, why?!" to "Wasted all my lives" and even very incredible drawings of characters from the game. Another cool thing about being able to post is that players help each other to find secrets by leaving hits on the game board, great way to help with finding hidden levels and secret giant coins.
Multiplayer mode has changed allowing up to five players to play simultaneously. Four characters can play on screen while a fifth player can assist, with Boost Mode, using the touch screen gamepad to help in reaching some of those high giant coins or platforms.
The four playable characters are Mario, Luigi, Blue Toad, an Yellow Toad, but the story includes returning characters Princes Peach, Yoshi, Baby Yoshi, the Koopalings, Bowser Jr. and Bowser plus new characters like Nabbits and Waddlewings.
The gamepad is also useful for playing the game directly on. Being able to play the entire game directly on the gamepad leave the TV open for others to use while someone is playing on the Wii U.
Along with the story mode there are 3 other modes to increase the fun and excitement of the replay ability.
"Boost Rush Mode" allows players to challenge each other as to how quick they can finish levels from the story by having a timer keep track of the time and awarding trophies for the quickest times.
"Challenge Mode" allows players to compete in different scenarios on levels that are not included in the story.
"Coin Battle Mode" allows players to compete at who can collect the most coins. With Coin Editor a player an customize levels and create a new challenge.
I give this game 5 out of 5 Power-ups. The story line is fun and entertaining with a good replay ability. Getting all the secret levels, acquiring all the giant star coins and getting everything to 100% makes for an amazingly fun game. It hold true to every Mario game in the franchise and has a few elements of prior games.
