I've made it a habit to check out kickstarter for projects that catch my eye. I'm a bit late with this one but I believe it can do a world of good to support such a cause. Please help any way you can if its with a post, a tweet, spreading the word or donating a few dollars every bit counts.
"SLUT: A Documentary Film"
Lindin publishes her diary entries one at a time, "without changing a single word except for the names of the people involved," Lindin said, "My limited commentary, which is confined to brackets in each entry, is meant to provide the relief of my current perspective, fifteen years later," she said.
"Now, it's time to make a documentary film," she said, this film, like Bully did, will help spread the message of equality and respect to a much broader audience in a manner which can be very effective.
Lindin has partners up with Jessica Caimi in hopes of making a documentary film that will educate the masses.
"Slut: A Documentary Film" will feature the stories of girls who were driven to suicide by sexual bullying, interviews with women who have experienced the effects of slut shaming in their own lives, and the opinions of media figures, sexologists, psychologists, and other experts.
Gathering credible sources such as Dr. Betty Dodson, artist, author and world-renowned clinical sexologist, Dr. Ted McIlvenna, founder and president of the Institute for the Advanced Study of Human Sexuality, Dr. Shira Tarrant, author, nationally recognized expert on gender politics, and professor of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, Dr. Melissa Jones: Clinical sexologist and board-certified sexuality educator at the Sexology Center in San Antonio, Texas, and Gina Tron, published the story of her own rape and subsequent slut shaming by police and other officials in Vice Magazine, to name a few of those willing to contribute their time to the making if this documentary.
"The UnSlut Project is a collaborative effort with two goals: to reach out to girls who are currently suffering and offer them some hope for the future; and to demonstrate the extent of sexual bullying and 'slut shaming' in our schools, media, and culture, so that we might all work toward change." - Lindin"Slut: A Documentary Film" will demonstrate the extent of sexual bullying and slut shaming in our schools, media, and culture; and explore the steps we can all take to work toward change right here in the United States and Canada.
Slut shaming involves denigrating a woman or women generally for perceived or real sexual behavior. It ranges from something like one teenager calling another teenager a “slut” for wearing a short dress to mainstream media coverage of rape that puts blame on the victim or victims. It is closely tied to the practice of sexual bullying and the concept of “rape culture,” which refers to society’s dismissal or even condoning of rape.
This film will be a low-budget production, so every dollar counts. Please give whatever you can, their funding goal represents the minimum needed to make this film. Starting with equipment rental such as renting an HD camera with audio equipment to travel cost such as conducting interviews with various experts as well as women who want to share their stories all over the United States and Canada and funding plane tickets, hostel stays, and on-the-go meals.
