Astro records new single, Hawaii
At Red Bull Studios in Los Angeles
Los Angeles, CA (September 30th, 2013) - Chilean indie rock band, Astro took some time off from recording their exciting upcoming new record and stopped by Red Bull Studios in Los Angeles a couple of months ago to start the process of recording a completely new song.
The four-piece band announced today that their new single "Hawaii" would be available for 'FREE' download during this entire week via http://bit.ly/1bUcZex (redbull.Panamerika.fm). Hawaii is a lively new tune that shows what the band is up to today.
The song is inspired in everything that the archipelago embodies - including its tropical vibe, the surfing and the scenic ocean views - but with a surreal twist. "It talks about the desire to be in a place that seems to be too far away but still very close. That's why the chorus mentions the Astral Polynesia," says Astro's Lead Singer and Composer, Andrés Nusser.
The idea for the song was conceived three years ago in Osorno, Chile, but it turned into reality earlier this year when the band was touring the U.S. While gigging NYC, Red Bull offered the group the opportunity to record one single at its recording studios, based in Los Angeles, California. The band worked on the original first chords, added the voice and the synths, and soon achieved a solid demo to record at Red Bull Studios in Los Angeles.
A week later, Astro celebrated drummer Octavio Cavieres' birthday by recording "Hawaii" in Los Angeles at the Red Bull Studios. According to the band, it was a work-and-play day in an absolutely stunning recording studio.
The song was produced and mixed by the members of Astro at their own studios in Santiago. It was mastered by the legendary Brooklyn-based Sound Engineer Joe Lambert (Toro y Moi, Animal Collective, Chromeo, among others).
Nusser added: "The whole process was very interesting and fun. We hadn't recorded or composed a song in threeyears, and during that period we learned a lot and became better professionals and individuals. I think much of that learning process was captured in the tune; and it sounds awesome!"
In the meantime, Astro continues to work on its second LP which is expected to be released in June 2014 and also it prepares a very special surprise for next summer.
