Young students look to produce "Passenger" a film that will be made by young students with the help of film industry professionals.
Luis de Barraicua goes on Kickstarter to fund the project produced by his former students.
" I met the students in my film class at a public school called Millikan Middle School in Los Angeles, California. Most of them are ninth graders in high school now and attend [various high schools] Birmingham High School, Daniel Pearl High School and Norte Dame High School," Barraicua said.
Feature film "Passenger" tells the story of young people who encounter an alien species who they have to learn to live with.
Barraicua said the film tackles the issues of racism, war and violence that plagues the minds of today's youth.
With so many technological advances humanity has been desensitized from the rest of humanity.
"Our film 'Passenger' explores these themes in a very interesting way," Barraicua said.
This film will be shot digitally on a Cannon C100 in the Santa Monica Mountains by talented students mentored by Hollywood professionals who have worked on professional sets like "The Hobbit" and "Avatar."
"The students I’m working with are amazing in terms of motivation, technical wizardry, compelling ideas, writing and learning things pretty quickly," Barraicua said, "We want to get everything right –the sound, effects and everything so we’re going to have to learn a great deal from these pros to get a compelling product."
Along with screening the film, once complete, for the Los Angeles backers, they will be entering "Passenger" in film festivals.
"Our story is solid and our actors are amazing so I think we’ll get into some solid film festivals," Barraicua said.
The film is tentatively set to be completed by July 2014.
