The harshness or war captures the attention of audiences watching "Lone Survivor" but the awe-inspiring part of the film is the emotional story that arises.
With a fierce, gruesome battle where only one U.S. Navy SEAL survived the emotion of the story seeps through to make the film much more powerful and shocking.
The film, based on the failed "Operation Red Wings" mission, uses actual footage of Navy Seal boot camp to commence a film that becomes intense.
Four members of Navy SEAL team 10 — Marcus Luthell, played by Mark Wahlberg, Michael Murphy, played by Taylor Kitsch, Danny Dietz, played by Emile Hirsch, and Mat "Axe" Axelson, played by Ben Foster — set off on a mission to assassinate Taliban leader Ahmad Shah.
Wahlberg commences the film strong and fierce and continues the magnificent performance all the way through the film.
Kitsch stays firm on his character from beginning to in and delivers a fair performance but just does not match the intensity Wahlberg has.
Hirsch just like the rest is strong and convinces the audience of his strength and dedication. His performance fits the role well.
Foster probably has the best role as his character struggles and battles through most impossible odds. His performance most compliments the intensity shown by Wahlberg.
The part that makes this war movie great is the ending, or final act of the film. It's unlike many past war movies and adds depth to the battle.
I give this film 4 out of 5 Popcorns. I'm not a war movie fan but this film had me on the edge of my seat. I have a whole new level of respect for Navy SEALs after the film. The lead character played by Wahlberg grabs the audience's attention and does a magnificent job of growing and changing through the film even as it's a story that is taking place over a short amount if time.
