"6 AM," the new song written and performed by SESAC Latina-affiliated singer-songwriter J Balvin (SAYCO), quickly caught on with top critics and influential fans in New York and Miami. Now, it's a smash hit for this Colombian singer and songwriter, going all the way to No. 1 on Billboard's Tropical Airplay chart for two consecutive weeks.
J Balvin's run of success extends to his native Colombia, where he's also No. 1, and his sales have achieved multi-platinum certifications. At the worldwide level, the music video for "6 AM" has logged over 2 million views on YouTube within five days of its premiere.
The single "6 AM" is included on his album La Familia, which has unexpectedly taken Europe by storm. In fact, J Balvin was named International Artist of the Year at Romania's ZU Awards.
Meanwhile, he's racked up over 10 million followers on social media, becoming a ubiquitous presence.
J Balvin recently was invited by DJ Alex Sensation to perform at Madison Square Garden as part of the La Mega Mezcla Live festival. There, he received a standing ovation.
He received an equally enthusiastic reception at Miami's American Airlines Arena, as part of the Miami Bash festival. On both occasions, he sang "Ya Te Lo Dije" (I Already Told You), "Tranquila" (Easy, Girl) and his current No.1 "6 AM."
This chart-topping accomplishment is published in Billboard magazine's April 26 - May 2, 2014, issue.
In addition to J Balvin, other SESAC Latina composers with current No. 1 hits are Rico Love with "Odio" (Hate), performed by Romeo Santos; and Luciano Luna, with "Te Hubieras Ido Antes" (You Should Have Left Sooner), performed by Julión Alvarez.
