The BMI Foundation has announced the opening of the 12th annual peermusic Latin Scholarship competition: Established by music publisher Ralph Peer II and funded by peermusic, the competition awards a $5,000.00 scholarship for the best song or instrumental composition submission in any Latin genre. For over a decade, the program has nurtured promising musicians who have gone on to distinguish themselves in the fields of television, film, recorded music, and concert performance. Past winners of the peermusic Latin Scholarship include Mexican singer and actor Manélick de la Parra, Venezuelan composer Marco Godoy, Mexican pop singer Daniel Dayz, Dominican singer/songwriter Sammy Genao and Costa Rican singer/songwriter Daniela Blau, among others.
Multi-platinum bachata singer/songwriter Prince Royce is part of the panel of judges and the new face of the scholarship, said: "Music is a vital part of education, and for peermusic/BMI to give students the opportunity to win a cash prize for showcasing their talents, it's truly an honor for me to have been chosen to be a part of it."
The judging panel comprises several prominent Latin music songwriters, publishers, and administrators, all overseen by music business executive and Senior Vice President of the BMI Foundation, Porfirio Piña, the program is open to students between the ages of 16 and 24, who are enrolled in any college or university located in the United States and Puerto Rico. All words and music must be original. For the first time this year, applications may be completed entirely online, no later than February 13, 2015.
