It is an undisputed fact that education has the power to transform a person’s life; however, low-income Hispanic children often lack the conditions necessary to take full advantage of it and the contact with teachers and mentors they can relate to who can be a role model for personal development and success.City Year works in high-poverty communities to bridge the gap between the support that students actually need and what their schools are designed and able to provide.
At City Year’s 26 locations across the United States and two international affiliates, groups of young adults, our AmeriCorps members, work full-time in schools for 11 months providing individualized support to at-risk students.
The mission of these young mentors is to provide the students extracurricular emotional and social support and skills that they need to be successful and become future college students.
