"Acoustic rock artists have thrived in Philadelphia, and Up The Chain is one of the few, young groups in the area that can say they have seen success."Philly-based indie-rock outfit, Up The Chain, have teamed up with Diffuser to exclusively premiere their new, live video for "The Hardest Stone," today, here: bit.ly/1JU80uV.
The live video for "The Hardest Stone" was filmed by Kettle Pot Tracks and is first single off the band's newest EP, Windows Into Worlds, which was released on April 21st, 2015.
Up The Chain previously released the track with Baeble Music and the official video with Pancakes And Whiskey, as well as the second single, "Windows Into Worlds" with All Things Go.
The EP was produced by Karl Peterson (Miley Cyrus, Usher) and is the band's third release following the LPs Holy, Open, Drying Road (2011) and Seeds and Thorns (2013).
Windows Into Worlds features well-crafted songs that strike the perfect balance of catchiness and substance with three-part harmonies and raw, infectious energy. For more information, please visit UpTheChain.com.
Regarding the song, the band states, "We usually perform this song upbeat and electric, but it started as a very mellow, finger-picked acoustic tune. The original demo, which we included on the EP, is just 2 acoustic guitars in a big empty room with high ceilings, tile floors and sliding glass doors. There were big natural reflections throughout. We have a real fondness for it as it was one of the first things we recorded at the empty beach house that eventually became our studio. This video is us recreating the original version of the song."
The band - which is Reed Kendall (vocals, guitar), Kirby Sybert (drums) and Noah Skaroff (bass) - is a collective of some of Philly's finest musicians. After years of developing his songwriting as a solo artist, Kendall has partnered with Skaroff and Sybert to create a trio.
With Skaroff and Sybert holding down the rhythm section, Kendall is comfortable being the front man, using electric guitar, taking solos and a seat behind the keyboard, adding a new dynamic to the performances.
Inspired by his musical heroes - Conor Oberst, Neil Young, Ryan Adams, Amos Lee and even Paul Simon - Kendall's songs are largely autobiographical, but the band's evolution comes from his willingness to share in the creative process.
The newcomers also bring with them fresh songwriting abilities, resulting in a deeper, richer sound with crisp, well-measured harmonies.
Up The Chain has made waves both in the states with performances at festivals such as the Philly Folk Fest and internationally with a month-long stint in Germany/Switzerland with dates opening for Leon Russell and 10,000 Maniacs.
Regarding the album, the band states, "Windows Into Worlds is very much our celebration of a fresh start. Not only is it our first release together as a trio, but a lot of the lyrical imagery in the songs relates to the opening up of new possibilities."
Up The Chain will release Windows Into Worlds on April 21st, 2015.
