I had the chance to see an early screening of the documentary film CARTEL LAND. It's by one CRAZZYYY individual named Matthew Heineman.
CARTEL LAND actually hits selected theaters today. To see where it's playing in Houston and other cities - click here.
With unprecedented access, CARTEL LAND is a riveting, on-the-ground look at the journeys of two vigilante groups and their shared enemy—the murderous Mexican drug cartels. In the Mexican state of Michoacán, Dr. Jose Mireles, a small-town physician known as "El Doctor," leads the Autodefensas, a citizen uprising against the violent Knights Templar drug cartel. Meanwhile, in Arizona's Cocaine Alley, American veteran Tim "Nailer" Foley heads a small paramilitary group, whose goal is to stop Mexico’s drug wars from seeping across our border. Filmmaker Matthew Heineman embeds himself in the heart of darkness as Nailer, El Doctor, and the cartel each vie to bring their own brand of justice to a society where institutions have failed. From executive producer Kathryn Bigelow, CARTEL LAND is a chilling, visceral meditation on the breakdown of order and the blurry line between good and evil.Now...what did I think of CARTEL LAND?
WHOA! This was one crazy documentary. It's totally worth the watch people. Click that link - find your city and go watch this sucker today or this weekend. Now keep in mind...if you watch the trailer on the website - - I think...it's just a littttttllleeee glimpse of what the movie's about...and that's a good thing. I hate trailers that show all the goods.
CARTEL LAND was definitely a roller coaster of emotions for me. I found myself getting pissed...then "Yeahhh!!"...then "WTFFFF???" The task that Tim "Nailer" and his dudes have - - crazy. I don't know how they do it. They definitely love America. Now their job is difficult - - but when it comes to "El Doctor" and his Autodefensas - - THAT is freaking nuts...and to see how all of this played out...FUKKKEEDDDDD UPPPPPP!!! (no spoilers!) It's just crazy across the border. The townspeople stories that director Matthew Heineman got on film - - AHHHH...makes you feel horrible. Honestly - I can see why some of those people risk walking across the desert - hoping for a better life in the US. It's terrible. I tried telling the wifey what CARTEL LAND was about over breakfast - she wasn't having it.
I'm telling ya people - - go see this.
I definitely gotta give director Matthew Heineman a SERIOUS high 5! It's crazy what he captured on film...and another thing. It seemed to me - like he was the ONLY white guy in Michoacán...he had to have stuck out like crazy!! Just nuts. Not only is the film's story out of this world - - but the way he captured it - the land, the towns, the people. High 5 dude!
I give CARTEL LAND...5 out of 5 popcorns. Go see it!
