Los Cenzontles (The Mockingbirds) continue their exploration of Mexican roots music with a highly anticipated album of all acoustic vintage songs from the Mexican countryside.
Los Cenzontles has been at the forefront of the Mexican roots music revival since 1989 by adopting and promoting regional styles of music from the son Jarocho of Veracruz, traditional Mariachi of Jalisco, to indigenous pirekuas of Michoacan.
Los Cenzontles' musical recordings, videos and tours have introduced new generations to Mexican roots music in Mexico and the U.S. As the rural lifestyle of Mexico disappears, young urban Mexicans and Mexican-Americans increasingly embrace the sounds and styles of Mexico's rural traditions to stay connected to memories and family.
Their new single, "La Rielera", is a storytelling corrido that dates back a hundred years to the Mexican revolution.
Many legendary singers have recorded "La Rielera" including Lola Beltran, Lydia Mendoza and Linda Ronstadt, among others.
Los Cenzontles' version of "La Rielera" is sung by the captivating and dynamic female duet of Fabiola Trujillo and Lucina Rodriguez, accompanied by traditional guitars.
Their powerful voices personify the strength of Mexican women and inspire new generations to explore their roots.
These two remarkable female voices are joined by Los Cenzontles' bassist Emiliano Rodriguez, a 21 year old with a mix of Mexican-American, French and Vietnamese heritage, and the group's musical director Eugene Rodriguez, a Grammy nominated producer and winner of countless regional and national awards for his work in cultural promotion.
Los Cenzontles' bold and refreshing rendition revives the once popular dueto sounds of groups such as Las Jilguerillas, Las Hermanitas Nuñez and Las Palomas.
Los Cenzontles' musical and cultural trajectory has earned them the respect and support of an impressive array of renowned artists including David Hidalgo (Los Lobos), Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, Los Tigres del Norte, Ry Cooder, The Chieftains, Taj Mahal, and Saul Hernandez (Caifanes).
