LA's own Myke Terry has officially released his debut EP "Red Handed."
Throughout the EP, Myke mixes soulful pop and R&B stylings reminiscent of The Weeknd, Miguel, and Frank Ocean.
"Red Handed" is now available for purchase on iTunes, here: apple.co/1jeJuKH.
Originally from Richmond, Virginia, Myke emerged onto the music scene after leaving Johnson and Wales University for Culinary Arts to join a heavy metal band.
This lead to 10 years of regional, national & international touring, most notably as the lead singer for 'metalcore' band Bury Your Dead from 2007-2011.
Myke's rebellious nature got him into trouble countless times on tour.
Myke said, "being a black guy in a metal band has its challenges, which I was forced to stand up to."He came face to face with racist fans and had to endure many gutless online 'tough guys' that had their warped views of who should or should not be fronting a metal band.
Myke left Bury Your Dead after writing two critically acclaimed studio albums ("Bury Your Dead" in 2008 and "It's Nothing Personal" in 2009), which both charted on Billboard 200.
In March of 2013, a former bandmate from Bury Your Dead contacted Myke, asking him if he'd like to be lead singer in a band taking shape and recording in Des Moines, IA.
A group of former tour-mates came together and IVA was born - with its' lone EP "Hot Blood" (2013).
After a handful of spirited shows in Des Moines, Myke got his creative juices flowing again and decided to make the move to LA in July 2013.
This time, he was determined to launch a solo career making the music he'd always wanted to make.
Soon after arriving in LA, Myke teamed up with Break Entertainment to re-brand and refine Terry's talents that truly express his voice as a solo artist.
The writing process was inspired by his childhood musical influences such as Billy Idol, ZZTop, Prince and Michael Jackson.
Currently, Myke spends his time in DTLA where he feels most at home among the cutting edge culture beginning to emerge.
Terry's high fashion, high style sensibility, along with this soulful voice and sometimes challenging past, give his new sound a truthful depth with an edge that can only come from life experience.
Myke said, "This work combines all my influences from soul to rock to 80's pop."Myke Terry has officially release his debut EP "Red Handed" Oct. 9.
