The song "Call Me Kuchu" was inspired by the documentary of the same name.
The film sheds light on the abysmal lack of basic human rights in Uganda, where being gay is considered criminal.
In this satirical video, Dr Kuchu, a turn-of-the-century magician and snake oil profiteer, stands in as a metaphorical representation for the self-deluded, wrong-minded politicians and religious zealots.
The music video was directed by by art and editorial photographer Logan White, with the concept and script developed by Locke and Saxon Brice.
The video was also edited by Emmy-nominated editor Dakota Solt, who co-stars as Kuchu's assistant.
“The challenge was to respect the serious nature of the song, but without illustrating the lyrical content too literally. I wanted to walk the line between having fun, but also acknowledging the matter at hand,” Locke said. “I hope people will be entertain and drawn in by the look of the video, but also take a close listen to whats going on under the surface.”Time Stands Still is the first solo offering from exRooney guitarist and vocalist Taylor Locke and despite its title, the record is a testament to forward progress and personal growth for Locke.
Once Rooney finally slowed down in 2012, Taylor built his recording studio, and began writing and cutting songs with his side project Taylor Locke and the Roughs at a furious pace.
In the two years they were together, The Roughs churned out 3 albums and a whole slew of besides.
Locke then began to focus on his producing and engineering while he waited for inspiration to strike.
And strike it did, in the form of a lyric journal from the iconic rock n' roll svengali Kim Fowley (The Runaways).
Although Locke's bombastic and dynamic guitar playing has defined him up to this point, it is his song construction, personal story telling, and tenor voice that come to the forefront on Time Stands Still.
His guitar playing, which falls somewhere between the melodic drama of Queen's Brian May and the tense counterpoint of The Pixies’ Joey Santiago can still be found, but it is the quiet moments of the album in which Locke expresses his thoughts on love, loss, nostalgia, and ultimately, maturation.
The lyrics remain at the forefront of the album, leading the charge for the well-arranged instruments to follow. In the end, this album is the sound of Taylor Locke moving on.
