Ohlayindigo is a San Francisco-based electronic pop duo from Oslo, Norway, composed of singer and songwriter Hanna Ponth, and drummer Zak Shrapnell. Ponth was selected to partake in a songwriting session with Sir Paul McCartney, based on her songwriting credentials and merit obtained while studying at Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. During the session, she sang with him and he helped her work on the first single, "Love You To The Moon," which he was very impressed by.
"The track ("Love you to the Moon" explores the themes of endless love, and dedication to someone," Shrapnell said. "It describes how sometimes it can be difficult to explain just how much someone means to you, hence why we sometimes say 'I love you to the moon and back.'"Ponth originally developed Ohlayindigo as her artistic alter ego to live out her eccentric dreams and artistic musings.
Together with Zak, the two came up with the name 'Ohlayindigo', laden with meaning: 'Indigo' for evoking atmosphere and emotion, which is quintessential in their music, 'lay' referring to an old English word for a sung poem, and 'oh' for full sound.
Ohlayindigo's lyrics are inspired by lived life, people's stories, feelings and emotions.
The rich electronic soundscape highlights and gives depth to each nuance of Ponth's lyrics, making the music a thorough and impassioned whole.
Ohlayindigo will be releasing new singles in the coming months, leading up to their debut EP out in summer 2016.
