Journalist Kim Baker's journey from an office job to field journalism takes her on an exciting adventure where she learns as much of what she is reporting on as she does about herself.
Baker, played by Tina Fey, looks at her routine life and wants more.
Fey shows more diversity in her acting with a humorous portrayal with a warm, human tone. She's spectacular and is able to portray this character in such a way that Fey is lost in the role and the audience can enjoy the film.
A chance opportunity sends Baker, who works behind a desk as a copy writer, into the war zone as a broad cast journalist.
As one of the two female reporters covering the war, British reporter Tanya Vanderpoel, played by Margot Robbie, being the other, they experience things different from all the males which are around them.
Robbie is great at her role with a charm and prestige that helps audiences be attracted to her. The humor of her character is more straight forward than Fey's but still enjoyable.
The events of the war change Baker and make her grow as a character through out the movie. The ending comes with a powerful message, but there are many messages that the story presents.
The movie although a dramedy still treats the seriousness of the story with respect as well as all the characters which are part of the main storyline.
I give this dramedy a 4 out of 5 Popcorns. It's spectacular at presenting events in a calm yet humorous manner when the scenes call for it. Fey with her star power does not distract and rather than it being seen as Tina Fey playing a character there's a genuine feel to the portrayal of Kim Baker. There's much more to this movie than just another Tina Fey comedy, its got depth and purpose.
