The Los Angeles Kings have assigned forward Nic Dowd and defenseman Kevin Gravel to the Ontario Reign of the American Hockey League, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced on April 12.
The 25-year-old Dowd (born May 27, 1990) is a 6-2, 195-pound native of Huntsville, Ala. who appeared in five games with the Kings this season going scoreless with a plus-1 rating and two penalty minutes. He played his first NHL game, March 22 at the Minnesota Wild.
Dowd has played in 57 games this season with Ontario (AHL), posting 47 points (13-34=47), 47 penalty minutes and a plus-12 rating.
In 139 games over three seasons in the AHL he has registered 91 points (22-69=91), a plus-30 rating and 91 penalty minutes.
The 24-year-old Gravel (born March 6, 1992) is a 6-4, 199-pound native of Kingsford, Mich. who has appeared in five games this season with the Kings (0-0=0), including his first NHL game, Feb. 11 at the NY Islanders.
Selected in the fifth-round (148th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Gravel has appeared in 55 games this season with Ontario, posting 20 points (7-13=20), a plus-4 rating and 30 penalty minutes.
In 118 career AHL games, he has registered 35 points (13-22=35), a plus-16 rating and 55 penalty minutes.
The Kings begin the postseason on April 14 at STAPLES Center with their Western Conference Round One matchup against the San Jose Sharks.
