The film is by directed, co-written and produced by veteran film, TV and Broadway actor Remy Auberjonois (The English Teacher, Michael Clayton, “Mad Men,” “Weeds”) and stars Kate Nowlin (Young Adult), Rusty Schwimmer (The Informant!, North Country), Tom Lipinski (Labor Day), and Remy's father, Emmy and SAG nominated veteran TV actor René Auberjonois ("Boston Legal," "The Practice," "Benson").
“Remy Auberjonois’s assured feature debut is an intense and searing portrait of PTSD’s crippling manifestation from the perspective of a female protagonist—something rarely seen on film. Kate Nowlin is mesmerizing in this tour de force performance that vividly illustrates the psychological complexities of a former soldier barely holding it together, and who is forced to adjust to the mundane reality of everyday life.”Our Sergeant returns home to a small town in Minnesota after a third tour with the Marines in Afghanistan.–Drea Clark, LAFF programmer
Unable to sleep, wracked by paranoia and anxiety, it is clear that in addition to the scars she bears on her torso, Our Sergeant carries unseen wounds.
When a boisterous homecoming party provokes her into an explosive outburst, Our Sergeant has nowhere to turn, and so she runs… deep into the North Woods.
Discovering a picturesque summer camp on the shores of a lake, Our Sergeant seeks refuge and at first, finds solace.
But she cannot outrun her own heart of darkness and the pristine wilderness becomes fraught with peril.
