Following Sept. 8's world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, Well Go USA Entertainment has acquired the North American distribution rights to acclaimed filmmaker Xiaogang Feng’s (Aftershock, Back to 1942, If You Are the One) "I Am Not Madame Bovary."
The drama stars Fan Bingbing (Skiptrace, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Buddha Mountain), one of China's leading actresses and biggest box office draws, as well as Guo Tao (The Dead End, Guns and Roses) and Da Peng (Jian Bing Man, Impossible).
Well Go USA has committed to a theatrical release in the U.S. and Canada on Oct. 7, which follows the wide release in China on Sept. 30.
Based on Mao Dun Literature Prize winner Liu Zhenyun’s 2012 novel I Did Not Kill My Husband and his adapted screenplay, "I Am Not Madame Bovary" tells the satirical story of Li Xuelian (Fan Bingbing), a village woman accused of being an adulterer.
