Riveting Documentary “The Red Pill” Explores Timely Cultural Divide Between Genders
Acclaimed filmmaker Cassie Jaye (“Daddy I Do,” & “The Right to Love: An American Family”), documents the fascinating, mysterious and polarizing world of the Men’s Rights Movement, in her latest film “The Red Pill.”
The film made its theatrical debut in the fall of 2016 beginning in New York, and Los Angeles before extending internationally. Giving viewers a visceral and honest look into the activism of both genders, “The Red Pill” challenges the audience to pull back the veil, question societal norms, and expose themselves to an alternate perspective on gender equality, power and privilege. Produced by Jaye Bird Productions, Gravitas Ventures will distribute the film globally across VOD/Digital platforms on March 7.
“'The Red Pill' shines a spotlight on the gender equality movement, and then immediately spins it off its axis, revealing a compelling and controversial subject matter we look forward to distributing to millions of homes,” Julie Candelaria, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Gravitas Ventures, said. The film chronicles Cassie Jaye’s meetings with the most influential and polarizing men's rights activists and advocates (MRAs) of today, including: Dr. Warren Farrell, author of The Myth Of Male Power; Paul Elam, founder of A Voice for Men; Harry Crouch, President of the National Coalition For Men; and Erin Pizzey, founder of the first women’s shelter in the UK.
The film also features rebuttals by leaders and scholars within the modern day feminist movement, including: Katherine Spillar, Executive Editor of Ms. Magazine and Executive Director of the Feminist Majority Foundation; Dr. Michael Kimmel, renowned sociologist specializing in gender studies and author of Angry White Men; and Michael Messner, Gender Studies Professor at the University of Southern California.
“The journey with this film has shown how the power of cinema can connect us across the divides of gender, economics and education. I’m excited to see how diverse global audiences will relate to the film through the extensive reach of Gravitas,” director Cassie Jaye said.“The Red Pill” opened on both coasts in October to sold out audiences as well as in a number of countries around the globe including England, Australia, etc.
