Curandero Salvador Gata helps people who come across spirits, demons and objects which cause undesired effects, much like the effect which happens when the music box in "Wish Upon" grants wishes.
Gata said that objects like the music box are more common than most people would expect.
For Clare Shannon, played by Joey King, she discovers a music box given to her by her father Jonathan Shannon, played by Ryan Phillippe, can get her everything her heart desires by wishing upon it.
Clare ends up finding each wish comes with a cost which may be too high for the rewards.
There are some people who ask for fame, fortune and love to different entities without knowing the full consequences of their actions.
Gata said that some people use the malevolent entities to gain what they want and just discard them without a second though. By doing this they fall victim to the entity coming back and collecting their price.
Much like in "Wish Upon," the best way to combat it is to be careful what one wishes for. There are other ways to find help, but that usually includes finding professionals like Gata to perform rituals to cleanse the person or object.
