Zachary Gottsagen, Shia LaBeouf, Dakota Johnson, and Bruce Dern also Star in the Armory Films Production
Armory Films announced on July 24 that Academy Award® Nominee John Hawkes (The Sessions, Winter’s Bone), Jon Bernthal (The Wolf of Wall Street, “The Walking Dead”), Academy Award® Nominee Thomas Haden Church (“Divorce,” Sideways), and Yelawolf (Albums: “Love Story”, “Trial By Fire”) will join newcomer Zachary Gottsagen (Becoming Bulletproof), Shia LaBeouf (American Honey, Transformers, Lawless), Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades of Grey, How to Be Single), and two-time Academy Award® Nominee Bruce Dern (Nebraska, The Hateful Eight), in "The Peanut Butter Falcon," written and directed by Tyler Nilson and Michael Schwartz (The Moped Diaries).
Armory Films’ Tim Zajaros and Christopher Lemole are producing and financing the film, alongside Bona Fide Productions’ Academy Award® Nominee Albert Berger and Academy Award® Nominee Ron Yerxa (Little Miss Sunshine, Nebraska), Academy Award® Winner T Bone Burnett (Crazy Heart), Lije Sarki, and David Thies. Burnett will also produce the soundtrack.
"The Peanut Butter Falcon" is the story of Zak, a young man with Down Syndrome who has been confined to live in a retirement home for most of his life.
One day he breaks out and takes to the road to try to find his hero, a retired wrestler named The Salt Water Redneck.
Along the way Zak joins forces with a desperado crab fisherman and a kind nurse. Adventures are had, danger is faced and unshakable bonds are formed. Principal Photography is underway in Savannah, Georgia.

Hawkes has two films releasing this fall: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri from Fox Searchlight and Small Town Crime with Octavia Spencer from Saban Films.
Bernthal has amassed an impressive list of film and television credits, with recent projects including Wind River and Baby Driver. He will next be seen starring as the Punisher in the upcoming Netflix series “The Punisher,” and Jamie M. Dagg’s Sweet Virginia.
He also starred in the AMC hit series “The Walking Dead” as well as Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street.
Haden Church received an Academy Award® nomination for his performance in a supporting role in Sideways.
He currently stars in the HBO series “Divorce” alongside Sarah Jessica Parker, and has previously appeared in titles including Heaven Is for Real, John Carter, We Bought a Zoo, Easy A, Spider-Man 3, and more. Yelawolf is an American hip hop artist known for albums including “Love Story” which premiered number three on the Billboard 200, and his upcoming release, “Trial By Fire.”
