Dan Berk and Robert Olsen Will Direct
the Darkly Comedic Thriller
The Realm, a subsidiary of BRON, and Tim and Trevor White’s Star Thrower Entertainment announced on March 8 that Bill Skarsgård (It) and Maika Monroe (It Follows) will star in their upcoming darkly comedic thriller "Villains," which Dan Berk and Robert Olsen will direct.
Tim and Trevor White are producing for Star Thrower, along with production head Allan Mandelbaum, and Garrick Dion is producing for "The Realm."
BRON’s Aaron L. Gilbert and Creative Wealth Media’s Jason Cloth are executive producers.
Rick Rickertsen and Mary Solomon are co-producing.
Endeavor Content is representing North American rights.
Written by Berk and Olsen, the Villains script was on the 2016 Black List, and follows a pair of amateur criminals who, after breaking into a suburban home, stumble upon a dark secret and two sadistic homeowners who will do anything to keep it from getting out.
Skarsgård is best known for his role as the infamous Pennywise in Warner Bros.’ re-adaptation of Stephen King’s "It;" he most recently starred in the Sundance breakthrough "Assassination Nation" directed by Sam Levinson, and produced by BRON, which was acquired by NEON and AGBO.
Monroe starred in David Robert Mitchell’s "It Follows;" Elijah Bynum’s "Hot Summer Nights" alongside Timothée Chalamet; "The Tribes of Palos Verdes" alongside Jennifer Garner; and will next be seen in "The Widow" alongside Chloë Grace Moretz and Isabelle Huppert.
Berk and Olsen previously wrote, produced and directed Body for Oscilloscope Laboratories, and directed The Stakelander, a sequel to Jim Mickle's Stake Land.
The Realm’s latest film, Prospect, premieres this month at the SXSW Film Festival.
Their parent company, BRON, co-produced Sam Levinson’s "Assassination Nation" and is also coming off the Dan Gilroy-directed "Roman J. Israel Esq" starring Denzel Washington, who received an Oscar nomination for his performance.
BRON is in post-production on the Jason Reitman-directed Hugh Jackman-starrer "The Front Runner," as well as the Gideon Raff-directed "The Red Sea Diving Resort" starring Chris Evans.
Next month, Focus is releasing Jason Reitman’s "Tully," starring Charlize Theron, a co-production with BRON.
Star Thrower’s recent slate includes: Steven Spielberg’s Academy Award® nominated The Post, a script they developed with writer Liz Hannah; Matt Spicer’s Indie spirit award-winning Ingrid Goes West; Taylor Sheridan’s critically acclaimed Wind River; and Rob Reiner's LBJ. The company is producing “Mercury 13” for Amazon, where they are re-teaming with The Post collaborators Amy Pascal, Bradley Whitford and Liz Hannah, and is in post-production on Welcome Home with Aaron Paul and Emily Ratajkowski.
Skarsgård is represented by WME and Magnolia Entertainment; Monroe is represented by WME and Management 360; and Berk and Olsen are represented by UTA, Kaplan/Perrone, and Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz.
