California Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) issued the following statement in response to the announcement by Sacramento District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert on the Stephon Clark investigation:
“My heart goes out to Stephon Clark’s family for their tremendous loss. We owe it to them and others to deliver on a use-of-force model for California and the nation going forward.
“I remain committed more than ever before to working on California’s law enforcement use-of-force standard. Our goal must continue to be to reduce preventable deaths and restore the public’s trust in our law enforcement agencies.”
