Crowds cheered, sang along, and had a multitude of emotional responses as Carla Morrison sang a fantastic set of her new and classic songs at the Hollywood Bowl on August 12.
Morrison took the stage in a gorgeous blue dress as the LA Philharmonic played. From the start the crowd burst into cheers.
The biggest surprise of the night came as Morrison brought out special guest Meme of Cafe Tacuba and the duet sand Morrison’s “Eres Tu” followed by Cafe Tacuba’s “Eres.”
One of the night’s emotional performances was that of “Pajarito del Amor” which got a huge reaction with attendees singing along. It was a beautiful performance which was moved the night forward.
A few songs later, the performance of “Un Beso” brought another change of mood. The attendees continued to stand and sing along as Morrison moved along the stage as she performed.
Morrison spoke about her journey as a musician, her life as an indie artist, and how honored and humbled she is to be able to do what she loves while sharing it with everyone who she has reached with her music.
As she spoke about music career, she recalled a song she associates with her father. A song which is one of the first she performed and a song which she continues to perform, “Tragos de Amargo Licor,” originally performed by Ramón Ayala. As it started the audience once again erupted in cheers and sang along.
Morrison’s beautiful rendition of this iconic song echoed by the attendees was a magnificent climax which once again energized the audience.
The crowd seemed to continue on their feet well into the set by Morrison. One attendee rushed the stage late in the evening for a chance to hug Morrison, but was quickly removed by security. Morrison showed her concern as she asked security to take care not to hurt the person who rushed the stage.
American-Venezuelan singer-songwriter Devendra Banhart opened the night with an energetic set which brought up the energy before Morrison the stage.
