In partnership with Equis Labs and Warner Bros. Pictures, global superstar Jennifer Lopez hosted a screening and reception in honor of BARBIE actress America Ferrera at Neuehouse Hollywood.
In her introductory remarks to a theater full of Latino journalists, Lopez shared her excitement to welcome attendees to a screening of BARBIE, what she referred to as the “biggest film of the year.”
“BARBIE, for me, is all about empowerment. It’s about the magic of the stories we tell ourselves about our inner imaginary little girl playtime fantasies that turn into our real-life big girl dreams and the knowledge that we can be whoever we want to be, whoever we imagine ourselves to be…no matter if we’re a girl from the Bronx via Puerto Rico, from Los Angles via Honduras, or from Mattel via the magical pink box.”
Lopez continued, “There is no one in my mind who embodies this more on and off screen than my friend, America Ferrera! She has been such an inspiration – such a constant in this business for Latinas for years and years. I look up to her – her talent, her activism, and who she is as a person is actually even more beautiful than that. But what she does for the Latino community, she shows up when we need her – motivating us to use our voices to advocate for a better world. I’m happy to be one who can say to her – thank you. Thank you for all that you do. It matters and we appreciate you.”
Before taking a group photo with the audience, Lopez concluded by commenting on the authenticity of America’s performance in the film, which was met by a big round of applause.
