Angel City FC allows KC Current to score two goals each half in 2-4 away loss on March 30.
The game seemed to be getting out of hand for Angel City as they go down 2-0 in extra time going into halftime.
Angel City would not be able to recover from a poor first half of play. It was a tough game for Angel City’s back line for the majority of the first half and the forwards were a non factor as it was difficult for the on field players to get the ball into the attacking third where forwards would be able to take chances at goal, but Angel City would end up having more possession of the ball.
Angel City forward Sydney Leroux, number 2, opened up the scoring for Angel City early in the second half with Angel City defender Madison Curry, number 27, scoring her first goal of the season for Angel City’s second goal scored against KC Current.
Two goals in the second half would not be enough for Angel City as goalkeeper Angelina Anderson, number 19, had a difficult match allowing 4 goals from KC Current.
The trouble with the back line made it for a miserable game for Anderson. Costly turnovers and mistakes by the in Angel City’s half left great opportunities which KC Current’s forwards took full advantage of. Out of 10 shots on goal, Anderson kept out 6, which kept Angel City’s hopes alive until late in the game.
Angel City forward Claire Emslie, number 10, had another good game clearly being the dominant winger having an assist with Leroux goal and putting in the corner kick that led to Curry’s goal, as well as fighting hard on the field to keep Angel City looking dangerous through the second half.
A few missed opportunities could have made a difference, but failed to produce anything.
Angel City forward Alyssa Thompson, number 21, had a few good plays that looked promising but was slightly off. Thompson had a good performance, but was not able to produce a goal.
The referees called off an Angel City goal by midfielder Raquel RodrÃguez Cedeño, number 7, late in the game as it was overturned by VAR after midfielder Kennedy Linh Fuller, number 17, was ruled to had been in an offside position.
Angel City looked deflated after the goal was overturned and KC Current would score the last of their four goals late in second half stoppage time.
While Angel City took the same amount of shots as KC Current, 17 shots each, Angel City only had 5 shots on target and 2 found the back of the net.
Angel City has a week break as the NWSL have a FIFA break.
The road trip continues as Angel City travels to Chicago’s SeatGeek Stadium to play against the Chicago Red Stars on Saturday, April 13 at 6:30 p.m. Pacific Time.
