The New York Latino Film Festival (NYLFF) is thrilled to announce that The Unexpecteds has been selected as an official selection for this year’s festival. This exciting action dramedy follows Gary and his best friends as they seek revenge against a social media influencer who has scammed them out of their life savings.
Featuring a star ensemble cast The Unexpecteds includes performances by Matt Walsh, Alejandro De Hoyos, Chelsea Rendon, Francisco Ramos, John Kaler, Jason Konopisos-Álvarez, Gerry Bednob, and Sonya Smith. The film is produced by Alejandro De Hoyos for Alta California Pictures, with co-production by Jasmin Espada, Pedro Pano, John Kaler, and Christina Gopal.
Hailed as one film to watch at LALIFF 2024 by the LA Times, the film was written and directed byAlejandro Montoya Marin, (Rebel Without a Crew, The Series, Millennium Bugs.) The Unexpecteds delivers a unique blend of humor and heartfelt storytelling, amplified by an electrifying soundtrack featuring iconic tracks from the Beastie Boys, Superchunk, The Beths, Plastilina Mosh and more.
The film also delivers a thrilling kick showcasing Alejandro De Hoyos’ martial arts skills, adding an exciting layer of action to the narrative.
“After having sold out at LALIFF, and Albuquerque Film and Media Experience (AFMX) we're excited to bring our film to NYC. NYC’s influential music scene is front and center in the movie with The Beastie Boys but it doesn't end there, our entire music department lives in New York”. said Director Montoya Marin.

The Unexpecteds will screen on Saturday, September 21st at 7:45 p.m. at the Regal Cinemas, Union Square.
